New Kids Express Opens Jan. 15 at TriStar Centennial Women's & Children's

First concierge pediatric outpatient center in Nashville and Middle Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 14, 2013) – Kids Express, the first and only concierge pediatric outpatient services center in the area, opens at TriStar Centennial Women’s & Children’s hospital in Nashville, Tenn., on January 15 at 8 a.m.

A ribbon cutting ceremony today celebrated this expansion of outpatient pediatric services at the hospital.

Kids Express is the first outpatient services center designed just for kids in Nashville and all of Middle Tennessee. A pediatrician or family practice physician now has a new referral option when a child needs services including IV therapy, respiratory therapy, medical laboratory work, and imaging services. Kids Express was specially designed to provide timely, stress-free outpatient services for children up to age 18.

“Kids Express is a unique extension of a pediatrician or family practitioner’s office that provides outpatient pediatric services that previously would have required a visit to the Emergency Room,” explained Jeffrey Guy, M.D., chief medical officer of the pediatric program at TriStar Centennial Women’s & Children’s. “Now pediatricians can refer patients to a kid-friendly environment with little to no wait for outpatient services and parents can avoid the emergency room, reducing stress and the additional charge of an emergency room visit.”

Specially trained staff at Kids Express focus only on providing outpatient pediatric care prescribed by the referring physician. Results are reported directly back the referring doctor, who then decides if the child is ready to go home or if more care is needed. If a child needs to be admitted, a higher level of pediatric care is available onsite in the hospital’s pediatric unit or pediatric intensive care unit.

This new six-bay area is staffed by registered nurses who specialize in pediatric care, the same experienced nursing team that also staffs the hospital’s pediatric intensive care unit and pediatric medical/surgical unit. Board-certified pediatric intensivists and hospitalists are on-site for immediate consultation.

Kids Express uses industry-leading technology designed for treating infants, children, and teenagers. The outpatient area was built in an existing hospital space that has been completely redesigned to fit this specialty care area.

Patients have access to free, dedicated parking directly across the street from the Kids Express entrance. There is also a covered pick-up and drop-off area.

Kids Express is located in TriStar Centennial Women’s & Children’s hospital on the TriStar Centennial Medical Center campus in Nashville, Tenn. The hospital recently expanded its pediatric services to include a new pediatric intensive care unit in addition to its existing pediatric medical/surgical unit.  Additional pediatric services are planned for 2013. It is the only Middle Tennessee hospital dedicated solely to caring for women and children.
