TriStar Centennial Medical Center Designated an ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
January 28, 2013
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (January 28, 2013) – TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
“As we celebrate 40 years of excellence in mammography, TriStar Centennial Medical Center remains committed to providing quality and comprehensive breast health services to the women of Nashville and Middle Tennessee,” said Wayne Reid, vice president of imaging and Ashland City hospital for TriStar Centennial. “Our goal has always been to provide the highest quality of imaging and diagnostic services to our patients. This designation recognizes the efforts and commitment of our Women’s Health & Imaging Center team to provide the most comprehensive and advanced screening and diagnostic tests for patients in our region.”
By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).
Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that TriStar Centennial has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
TriStar Centennial offers breast health services in the new Women’s Health & Imaging Center, formerly the Breast Center, which opened in a new location on campus in mid-2012. This specially designed area provides a spa-like atmosphere where women receive personal, quality care from professional staff. Services include routine and diagnostic mammograms, tomosynthesis (3D mammography), breast ultrasound, and stereotactic breast biopsy procedures.
TriStar Centennial also offers a breast health patient navigation program specifically for breast cancer patients. If a patient needs additional tests or care following results of a screening mammogram, the experienced nurse practitioner is available to help answer questions, connect with care providers, and offer advice for community resources. Recent studies suggest that patient navigation—a service that helps patients manage the complexities of cancer care—leads to faster diagnosis for breast cancer.
The Women’s Health & Imaging Center is located in the new Medical Park building on the TriStar Centennial campus. The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
