NASHVILLE, Tenn. (November 25, 2013) – TriStar Centennial Medical Center is pleased to welcome Tammy M. Baxter, M.D., FACS, a board certified general and thoracic surgeon, to its medical staff. Dr. Baxter has joined Centennial Thoracic Surgical Associates, part of TriStar Medical Group.
Dr. Baxter received her medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga. She completed a cardiothoracic surgery residency at The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga., as well as Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Subsequently, she completed an advanced thoracic fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa. She is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgery, Women in Thoracic Surgery, General Thoracic Surgery Club, Southern Thoracic Surgical Association and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Baxter is specially trained in minimally-invasive and robotic-assisted thoracic surgery and joins TriStar Centennial from Miami, Fla., where she was an attending thoracic surgeon at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami health system, including the UM Sylvester Cancer Center. She championed several steering committees, was the associate program director of the thoracic residency program for the Miller School of Medicine (University of Miami) and the medical director of the lung cancer screening program for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. She also served as an assistant professor of clinical surgery at the University of Miami – Miller School of Medicine.
