Confidentiality and Security - HIPAA
- When a patient enters the hospital, we assume an obligation to keep in confidence all that pertains to them. This responsibility is shared by every person. All information about patients (spoken, electronic and written) must be guarded.
- Any person who discusses such information outside of a “need to know” basis or leaves the facility with medical records is engaging in a breach of ethics of Centennial Medical Center.
- Release of Medical Information should only occur after proper authorization and medical records should never leave the facility.
- Violations of this policy are subject to termination of assignments.
