Surgical Options

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAP-BAND® or REALIZE) is a purely restrictive procedure in which a band is placed around the uppermost part of the stomach. Patients then receive adjustments (fills) to customize the degree of restriction to the individual. Food travels through the normal digestive process, and patients feel full and satisfied with small meals. Learn more about Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band »

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy is a purely restrictive procedure in which approximately three-fourths of the stomach is removed. It provides appetite suppression without the use of a foreign device or the need for adjustments. Learn more about Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band »

Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is a combined restrictive and malabsorptive procedure where a large portion of the stomach and a portion of the small intestine are bypassed. Still considered the gold standard for weight loss surgery, gastric bypass is the most frequently performed weight loss surgery procedure in the United States. Patients report significant reduction of hunger and satisfaction with eating only small amounts of food. Learn more about Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass-Laparoscopic Surgery »

Laparoscopic Duodenal Switch is a primarily malabsorptive procedure which removes approximately three-fourths of the stomach and bypasses a significant portion of the small intestine to produce both restriction of food intake and reduction of the absorption of fat intake.
