Weight loss surgery options
If you are affected by obesity, you know first-hand that diet and exercise may not be enough to keep weight off. We're here to help you take action and make a lifestyle change. Our weight loss doctors answer your bariatric surgery questions and determine if you are a candidate for weight loss surgery.
Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding
LAP-BAND® or REALIZE is a purely restrictive procedure in which a band is placed around the uppermost part of the stomach. Patients then receive adjustments (fills) to customize the degree of restriction to the individual. Food travels through the normal digestive process, and patients feel full and satisfied with small meals.
Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy
Gastric sleeves are a purely restrictive procedure in which approximately 75 percent of the stomach is removed. It provides appetite suppression without the use of a foreign device or the need for adjustments.
Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
Gastric bypass is a combined restrictive and malabsorptive procedure where a large portion of the stomach and a portion of the small intestine are bypassed. Still considered the gold standard for weight loss surgery, gastric bypass is the most frequently performed weight loss surgery procedure in the United States. Patients report significant reduction of hunger and satisfaction with eating only small amounts of food.
Laparoscopic duodenal switch
This weight loss surgery is a primarily malabsorptive procedure that removes approximately 75 percent of the stomach and bypasses a significant portion of the small intestine.
